Hey everyone,

I'm taking a few months off at the start of 2025! Closing commissions, posting/streaming less frequently. I'm still around so this isn't "goodbye" as much as just, for those of you who notice I'm less active, this is why!

My current plan is to have one last stream on January 4th and then to take a break until April! I'm going to spend the time trying to build up my skills. It feels like there are some things I'll never figure out unless I set aside a  chunk of time to really try. So, I'm going to try.

Thanks for your understanding! I love you guys 💜

🎉My first Steam game "Turbo Fat" is out today!🎉

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2213410/Turbo_Fat/

It's a puzzle game similar to Tetris, but with tons of wacky characters, crazy levels, and all new gameplay which incentivizes building boxes instead of clearing lines.

This is the biggest project I’ve ever tackled, even more so than Monster Mind. I wanted to take the lessons I learned from that game and explore ambitious ideas, like making it easier for fans to engage. Many of you expressed a desire to translate Monster Mind (which is VERY hard!) or create your own monsters (also quite challenging). With Turbo Fat, I’ve made those dreams a reality!

✨So what does Turbo Fat do differently?

  • Fully translatable (it's already been translated into Spanish by a dedicated fan!)
  • Design your own monsters (i've already added countless fan creations to the game!)
  • Human-readable dialogue (cutscene files resemble movie scripts, with fun emotes!)

As someone who started developing in Flash, I never imagined I could make a game like this outside of that platform. It’s been a hard journey, but I’m incredibly proud of what Turbo Fat has become.

Anyway I hope you’ll check it out and enjoy the experience! Your support means the world to me.

I've been nominated for an Artconomy Brushie award! They're running the awards ceremony on noon Sunday, Central (US) time on Seeksie's Picarto.

I don't know what I was nominated for, or whether I'll win anything -- but if you want to tune in and cheer me on I'll see you there 😃

If you're unfamiliar with Artconomy -- Artconomy is a gallery site which also provides a safe platform for artists and commissioners to work with each other. While other sites provide similar services, Artconomy is unique in that they provide their own escrow service where artists don't get paid unless the work is complete, and commissioners cannot back out once they've sent payment. I've been a member since 2022 and conducted several commissions there and had only positive experiences! If this service sounds like something you'd be interested in you should check it out.

Hello thank you so much for all of your kind comments on my art recently! Some of you just leave short comments like "Nice" or "I love it" and others write epic poems worthy of submission to the National Archives. Either way they always make me smile. I try not to make it a habit to react to them in the morning, because it is honestly so joyful reading them that I will not get any work done throughout the day. But every few hours throughout the day between activities, I will look at them and reply to a few and it makes me very happy so thank you!

I'm also sorry I'm so hard to talk to. It's something that has changed that I don't like. I can look at digital backups of my conversations from back in 2005 or 2015 and it almost feels like I was literally a different person back then! But 7 or 8 years ago it is like a switch suddenly flipped in my head. Instead of perceiving conversations as fun ways to get to know people, suddenly conversations were now an obstacle in the way of other things I want to do. Whether I am drawing, watching a show, gaming with friends or gaming by myself, studying or anything else if I get a message, my brain instinctively fights against it. "A message! Ugh! Make it go away! I want to concentrate on this other thing!"

While I'm not making excuses for my behavior, I think it might stem from living without roommates. When you live with someone else, your time is constantly interrupted by them cooking meals, playing music, going out -- small incidental events that make you resurface from the depths and think, "Oh that's right! I'm a human being who exists in a world with humans." When you live by yourself, you often go entire days with only cursory human contact and it's easy to think that your drawings, your shows or your games are the most important things in the world.

I had a moment of clairvoyance the other day when I realized there are certain human phrases like "They're spending a lot of time together" which is seen as a positive, or "She's spending a lot of time alone" which is always a negative. "They're always with each other," oh that's nice! Are they going out? "She's always by herself," Oh no! Should we talk to her? ... ...And on one level that's a toxic mindset, why is spending time alone bad? People can spend their time however they like. But on the other hand it makes sense -- not in an oppressive "everybody must be an extrovert" way but in a healthier way. Humanity and its causes are primarily advanced through interacting with humans. If we talk about a fun new video game I'm playing or we go see a movie together, these kinds of shared experiences gradually make the world a better place. If I play a video game and watch Netflix by myself, the world is about the same as it was. So maybe being by yourself is a mistake (at least a little one) and maybe having a preference for being alone is bad (or at least a little bad.)

Anyways I appreciate everyone's efforts to reach out and I apologize if sometimes it feels like I am slapping your hand away! It's something wrong with me, and I'm trying my best to compensate for it. You're all very special to me! Thank you for playing Monster Mind, I appreciate everyone talking about it so much. I'd love to make another video game like it some day! It would be very difficult for me but I think it would be fun to try.

Based on feedback, my future uploads will be lossless pngs.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of a zoomed and cropped section of one of my images, so you can judge for yourself. Png files are about 3-4 times larger than high quality jpeg files, but I think the jpeg artifacts are noticeable, particularly on my linework or red parts of the image.

I appreciate everyone's feedback yesterday, thanks for being patient with me!

Do you think i should share my images in PNG or JPEG form?

PNG images are great for art because they keep lines sharp and clear without any fuzziness. They are also lossless, meaning that when you convert them to other formats, the image quality remains high, with no data loss. This makes them ideal for artwork and graphics that require precision and detail.

JPEG images, on the other hand, are much smaller in file size, taking up about 3-4 times less space. They also load faster, making them perfect for use on websites and when sharing images online. However, they may lose some quality, especially around sharp lines and edges, due to compression.

In the past I've used JPEGs, but I think there's merit to both. What do you think?

2023 was a big year for me! In hindsight a whole ton of stuff happened and it's sort of hard to absorb it all.

Furry Cruise: In March I went on a week-long Caribbean cruise with three of my closest furry friends. Gorgeous beaches, fancy restaurants, relaxing hot tubs, sunbathing, games and just an entire week with zero responsibilities. I'd been on a few cruises like this with school friends but it's really different when it's close friends from the internet, it was a really chill time and I can't wait to repeat it.

Gallery changes: A few galleries closed, changed management or lost their marbles! The most notable of these is FurAffinity and Twitter which imploded in 2023, and Bluesky and Itaku which exploded in 2023. I'm glad I had the foresight to set up PostyBirb or this would have been a tough year.

Porting Monster Mind: Wow! I'm really proud I accomplished this. Monster Mind was written in HaxeFlixel, and HaxeFlixel is "cross platform" in the same way that a fetus is multilingual. Y-yeah I... I guess the potential is there, SOMEDAY... if spend a lot of time and do a lot of work yourself. Porting Monster Mind to Windows and HTML5 was very hard, and it made me appreciate Godot more.

I completed 141 commissions this year and drew about 200 non-commission pieces as well. I have two video games in active development, one of which should be done in 2024 (phew!) so 2024 should be a big year too! Thank you for keeping me company.

It has been a long 22 years but it looks like http://us.vclart.net/ is no more!

I joined VCL around 2001. Back then furries would upload their art to their own personal websites, or to a shared web host like FurNation if they didn't want to operate their own server. But they still had to write their own HTML code, and forget about keywords or searching or anything like that! So VCL was pretty unique at the time. It was easy to upload your art, and it would show up on a front page where people could randomly find it. And you could even search and stuff!

VCL had a strict "No Fanart" policy, so because it was my only gallery I ended up drawing tons of furry stuff. But around 2005, other less restrictive gallery sites opened up which let me draw anything I wanted. Over time I had fewer and fewer things I could post to VCL -- but surprisingly, I kept my VCL gallery up to date as of 2023! I drew about a half dozen furry commissions this year which I was able to post there. Thank you VCL! You were an awesome website~

I have opened a gallery at Furtastic! Furtastic is trying to fill in as "The Furry Community Website" where all the furries go. Their content policies seem lenient enough that I can upload all my art there! It is supported by PostyBirb as well.

Let me know if you join Furtastic, and I'll give you a follow!

I've closed commissions until 2024 so that I can dedicate more time to a big cool personal art project! I hope you'll like it when it is finished. ...I will still stream at Picarto on Saturdays, so you will have more Argon Vile art than you could ever want! But you can no longer pay me for it. I'm sorry! I love money. I'm sure you love money too! This way you can have more money~ 🌲 It is a birthday present!

I've created a Bluesky account to host my art! Why should you use Bluesky? Well...

  * If you wish I posted to Twitter more frequently

Thanks for your kind comments, especially your clever guesses to my Pokemon guessing game from last week! Did anybody guess the Pokemon? Hmm I wonder! Let's be patient and see~
